17 June 2011 Ride: In the Passing Lane

A disconnected sort of day.  I thought I was back on track with a good 7 hours of sleep last night but the day has been moving along strangely.  A good, but rather lethargic ride along the bike trail this morning.   At one point, I came to an intersection and a young woman on a mountain-type bike pulled up behind me.  Dressed in regular clothes with no helmet and a large pouch swung over her back, I assumed I would pull away from her rather quickly even in my sluggish state.   But, as we made our way up the slight incline, she was easily keeping up with me.  She stayed behind for about a mile, finally passing me on the Lake Fayetteville Dam.
Ah, to be young and have strong legs.

However, once she passed me, she didn't pull away.  I ended up being right behind her which made it a bit awkward at first.  Though, I think we settled into a temporary status of riding buddies.  I will say that it did seem she had to pump harder on the pedals to maintain her position, not that we were racing.  About 2 miles later she took a left and I bid her a good day.

I came across this cloud formation near the Botanical Garden.  The lower one is the one that caught my eye having a surreal appearance.  In the photo, I now see a fish face of sorts on the right end.

Lacking for any true inspiration for photo taken this morning, I thought of capturing some other folks from the back side.  The woman below on the bike, I passed very easily.  I didn't really notice it at the time but I like how the rider and the walker have a matching color clothing scheme.

Getting close to the end of the ride, a sandbar under a bridge caught my eye.  I really liked the contrast of the sunlight and the shadow on the bar.

By accident, I found the picture below to be a very interesting composition when I rotated it 90 degrees.

Back at the parking lot, two familiar faces.  Cookie and Martin had just finished a ride out on the trail in the opposite direction.

Tomorrow morning will be an early ride as I then head out to Nashville,TN.  Still feels too soon after coming back to do a 9 hour drive.

Todays' Ride:  2hrs. 11mins.  25.03 miles.  75-80 degrees.  Miles YTD:  3,742.35
