18 June 2011 Ride: Moonlight Ride

Planning to leave early for the drive to Tennessee, I was concerned about updating the blog after the ride as Rachel's game is 8:00 at night, leaving no time afterwards.  However, waking up at 2:44 AM put those concerns to rest.  By 3:00 I saw I was wide awake so I got out of bed and was on the bike by 3:30.  I've always wanted to do a midnight ride for one of my daily rides so this was coming very close.  Which led me to think about the following situation:  If I start a ride at 11:00PM and ride until 1:00AM the next day, would that constitute two daily rides?  I would think so.  I also think I'm getting a bit loony coming up with such deep philosophical questions.

These first two shots are taken while on the move on the bike.  Click on the photo below to enlarge and get the full effect.
What I like is that the reflections appear as if they could be lights from a city far off in a valley below.

I wanted to take a picture of a tractor that was sitting under an amber light.  But every time I approached, my headlamp shut the photo sensitive lamp off and I never could get a picture.

I think what turned out making this picture interesting (purely by accident) is the Aspen street sign that also is in the frame.  That just adds to the effect that the signs are hanging in mid-air.

I saw a couple of deer and two cats none of which would stay still long enough to get a picture.  However, this hydrant was very cooperative.

Without a tripod, it is very difficult for me to get a good shot of the moon.  Though, this being a moonlight ride, it seemed as if I should include one.  The interesting detail of this photo is the tree branches that are barely visible.

Back in the neighborhood after riding down Hwy 45 several miles and back, I was finishing up my hour when I saw a slightly greenish glow in the road which I thought was probably a glow worm or a relative of a lightening bug that I had spotted in the past.  I kept my light on the spot of the glow and I was surprised to see a small wolf spider.  I'm assuming that my headlight reflected off of its eye.  Who would have thought.  And, I was able to capture a shot of some nocturnal wildlife after all!

18 June 2011 Moonlit Ride:  63mins.  11.71 miles.  78 degrees.  Miles YTD:  3,754.06
