13 June 2011 Ride: Part Two: Notre Dame

Notre Dame, to me, is one of those structures on the outside that are impressive more because of when it was built (started in 1100s, finished in the 1300s) and history than because I am taken with its beauty.  What an interesting mix of symbolism with all the light and dark figures.  The inside is a different matter.  The stained glass is remarkable.

These green figures stand out against the grey building.  They are located about halfway up.

The famous rose window from the outside.

This clock is a bit of an oddity because of where it is positioned high up o the roof.  There is another one just like it to the right on the other side of a large gable.  They are not easy to see from the ground and it almost seems as if they were placed where they are to be seen by someone in a building further away.

Now for the inside.

As we were sitting admiring the inside view, I happened to look down and the leg of the chair in front of me struck an interesting composition with the tile floor.  I think what really gives this picture character are the two leg shadows.

Getting good at navigating the Paris streets, even during rush-hour traffic, we headed toward the Arc de Triomphe so that Carol could get a look and then to dinner.  Another bathroom shot but not for artistic reasons.  I hadn't seen one of these squatting toilets since we were in China.  Fortunately, for Carol, the nest door bathroom had a regular toilet stool.
